Job Description
The SCM Customer Relationship team at METRO is responsible for managing key customer relationships, ensuring accurate forecasting, and overseeing the full order fulfillment process. As an intern, you will actively support the team in daily operations and strategic process improvements but also work on own topics and customers. This role offers hands-on experience in international supply chain management and close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Our team plays a central role in ensuring product availability for METRO Own Brand assortments by managing customer relationships, demand planning, forecasting accuracy, stock visibility, and the end-to-end order fulfillment process.
In a highly international and fast-changing environment, the team works closely with areas such as Integrated Planning, Supply Chain, Logistics, Sourcing, Master Data, and IT, while also supporting key transformation projects.
As an Intern you will become an active part of this international environment. You will support operational activities, participate in process improvement initiatives, and gradually take ownership of dedicated customers and topics.
Responsibilities
- Execute predefined daily, weekly, and monthly operational SCM processes.
- Analyze, validate, and challenge customer forecasts to support accurate demand planning and product availability.
- Monitor stock situations, forecast coverage, and order execution performance for assigned customers and assortments.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of customer orders from order entry until final delivery.
- Support the coordination of operational topics related to customer orders, availability, and delivery issues.
- Communicate proactively with METRO countries and internal stakeholders to solve operational challenges and improve collaboration.
- Prepare operational analyses, KPI follow-ups, reports, and presentations to support business decisions.
- Gradually take ownership of dedicated customers and individual improvement topics during the internship period.
- Support ad hoc operational and project-related activities as required.
Qualifications
- You are currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.
- You possess strong analytical skills and enjoy working with operational data and problem-solving.
- You have advanced MS Office skills, especially in Excel (Pivot Tables, formulas, data analysis; Macros are a plus) and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of BI tools, dashboards, or data visualization solutions is considered an advantage.
- You are passionate about customer service and understand its impact on supply chain performance.
- You are proactive, structured, and solution-oriented, with a hands-on mentality.
- You are customer-oriented and understand the impact of supply chain performance on customer satisfaction and business.
- You are comfortable working in an international and cross-functional environment with multiple stakeholders.
- You have strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- You are fluent in English, both spoken and written; additional European languages are considered a plus.
